Welcome to As It Stands, a weekly column rounding up everything you missed in the Canadian Premier League.

We have a new leader in the Canadian Premier League, and just two undefeated teams left.

Cavalry FC are back on top, after a second-half stampede led them to a 3-0 win over Pacific FC. Atlético Ottawa were the first team to take down Forge FC, as a late Joaquim Coulanges winner bagged three points in Diego Mejía's final game at TD Place.

On Saturday, the Halifax Wanderers and Inter Toronto battled to a 1-1 draw out east, headlined by a couple screamers from Julian Altobelli and Isaiah Johnston — now your joint Golden Boot leaders (along with Tobias Warschewski).

We also had a little late drama on the West Coast, where Vancouver FC thought they'd won it at the death thanks to Mohamed Amissi, only for Matisse Chrétien to snatch a point for FC Supra moments later.

After all that, the Cavs lead the way, and only they and Inter Toronto remain unbeaten so far, at about the quarter mark of the 2026 season.

It was kind of a weird week in the CPL; it's not often we get two coaching changes.

Pacific FC officially parted ways with James Merriman, and Atlético Ottawa announced that Diego Mejía will be leaving at the end of May. So, at the moment there are two vacant coaching positions in the CPL.

There's no word yet on who those teams might be looking at to fill the roles, but neither team is expected to rush to a decision. Both sides will likely be operating with interim managers for the next few weeks, including next weekend when they play each other.

Mejía's last game in charge was supposed to be this Saturday's game at Pacific, but in classic Mejía fashion, he picked up a yellow card against Forge — his fourth of the season! — and will be suspended.

The coming weekend should be a lot of fun, with a top-of-the-table clash between Forge and Cavalry on tap. Either side would be alone in first place with a win on Sunday.

Plus, FC Supra and Pacific FC host the first Red and White Out matches this weekend. If you're headed to either game, bust out your Canada gear to help the CPL cheer on the national team next month.

Speaking of the national team, a special shout out to Cavalry FC's Maël Henry and Forge's Zayne Bruno. Both players have been invited by Jesse Marsch to join Canada's pre-World Cup camp in Charlotte, N.C. this week as training players.

Awards Watch

A few of the usual suspects added to their scoring tally this weekend; Julian Altobelli and Tobias Warschewski, as we perhaps expected, are atop the Golden Boot leaderboard with four each. What we might not have anticipated was Isaiah Johnston joining them; the midfielder has been Halifax's best player this year, and could get some award attention if he keeps up this form.

U-21 Minutes Update

Joaquim Coulanges is on the board with his first goal of the campaign; his strike was a special one that handed Atlético Ottawa a massive home win over Forge.

Vancouver had a couple U-21s in the lineup with Kian Proctor and Emrick Fotsing. The latter, along with Ottawa's Sergei Kozlovskiy and Inter Toronto's Shola Jimoh, is headed to France this week to join the Canadian U-20s at the Maurice Revello Tournament.
