Vancouver FC of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) today announced the club-record transfer of midfielder Emrick Fotsing to Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps FC, for an undisclosed fee and future considerations.
As part of the agreement, Fotsing, 18, will remain with VFC on loan through 2026, continuing his development with the Eagles as the club enters a crucial stretch in its push for the playoffs, before joining the Whitecaps. Fotsing, who suffered a hip injury while on international duty with Canada’s U-20 side, is currently rehabilitating with the Whitecaps sports medicine and science team before returning to Vancouver in September.
The agreement represents the largest transfer in Vancouver history, surpassing the previous club record set by the sale of Canadian midfielder Grady McDonnell to Belgian side Club Brugge in January 2025, and ranks as the second-largest transfer in CPL history, behind only Kwasi Poku’s league-record move from Forge FC to Belgian side RWD Molenbeek in 2024. Poku recently joined Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
The transfers of Fotsing, and McDonnell before him, establish VFC as a leading destination for young Canadian talent.

Fotsing joined VFC in February 2025 as a highly touted domestic prospect, seeking an opportunity to establish himself at the professional level. Signed under the CPL’s Exceptional Young Talent designation, which was introduced in 2023 to support the development of the next generation of young Canadian players, Fotsing has since made 39 appearances in all competitions over two seasons with the Eagles, including 31 in CPL play and eight in the TELUS Canadian Championship, scoring four goals.

The teenager has also broken into Canada Soccer’s youth national team system during his time with the Eagles. He made his debut for Canada at the U-18 level in 2025 before progressing to the U-20 side in 2026, making seven appearances and twice captaining the team. He played a leading role in Canada’s successful Concacaf U-20 Championship campaign, which secured the country’s first qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup since 2007, contributing two goals and one assist.
