Cavalry FC's Labour Day victory at the Wanderers Grounds began with a tactical switch.
At halftime, manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. shifted veteran midfielder Sergio Camargo out to the wing. Camargo, who has traditionally played as an attacking midfielder during his eight seasons with the Calgary club, had already been filling in at a deeper-lying midfield role due to injuries and absences.
By moving him closer to goal, however, even from wider areas, Camargo made an immediate impact. He assisted on Nathaniel Edwards' brilliant team goal in the 48th minute, played a key pass in the buildup to his side's second goal in the 64th minute before scoring the third goal himself.
With the goal and assist in Cavalry's 3-1 victory, Camargo was named the Canadian Premier League's Maple Lodge Farms Player of the Week for Matchweek 20.
He was also outstanding without the ball, winning possession ten times during the match. With the win, Cavalry extended their lead at the top of the CPL table to four points.
Camargo is the fourth Cavalry player to be named the league's Player of the Week this season, joining Harry Paton (Week two), Tobias Warschewski (Weeks 7, 15, 18) and Goteh Ntingee (Week 10).
