Cavalry FC extended their lead at the top of the Canadian Premier League table to four points after a 3-1 Labour Day victory at the Wanderers Grounds on Monday.
A brilliant second half from the Cavs saw them score three times to collect three more points in the table, and make it seven straight matches unbeaten, six of which have been wins.
Both clubs made a pair of changes to their starting elevens, with Cavalry notably missing Ali Musse as he awaits the birth of his child.
Halifax created the first strong chance of the match, as Adonijah Reid sent a well-struck low shot off the post.
The hosts were left in disbelief at their lack of luck as just four minutes later Jason Bahamboula also struck the post with a curling strike. It was a lively start for the Wanderers, who tested Cavalry's league-best defence during the opening 20 minutes.
Sergio Camargo, back into the starting lineup for Cavalry, replied with a chance of his own when he was unmarked at the top of the box. But he curled an outside-of-the-foot strike just wide of the net.
From there, the first half turned into a fairly cagey affair, with neither side able to find much cohesion in their attack. Cavalry had the only shot on target, and both managed just 0.15 expected goals through the opening 45.
A tactical adjustment at half-time, however, made all the difference for the visitors. Wheeldon Jr. brought on Eryk Kobza, allowing Sergio Camargo to shift out onto the right wing and get closer to goal.
"It allowed us to get a little bit more space when we had possession," said Cavalry FC manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. "and then when they were outnumbered because they put numbers forward, they left gaps which we exploited."
Just two-and-a-half minutes into the second half, the move paid off. Some lovely one-touch passing in the box landed at the feet of Nathaniel Edwards courtesy of an excellent layoff from Camargo. Edwards curled the match's opening goal into the bottom corner.
Halifax responded well, and put Cavalry back under pressure, creating a number of chances around the hour mark. Looking to add to their attack, they gave Canadian youth national team standout Liam Mackenzie his CPL debut off the bench.
But Cavalry delivered another big blow in the 64th minute. A perfect cross from Adam Pearlman into the path of Tobias Warschewski saw the German chip Carducci for his ninth goal of the season.
Halifax's day got even worse just over ten minutes later, when a botched clearance fell into the path of Camargo, who made it 3-0.
The hosts did finally give their boisterous Labour Day crowd something to cheer about as Isaiah Johnston converted a penalty in the 87th minute to make it 3-1. It was too little too late, however, for a side who will feel they once again let themselves down in the game's key moments.
"We've been so good at certain times, and we played really good football, and we scored goals," said Isaiah Johnston. "We just let our inconsistency and immaturity get the better of us, and that's why we're not where we wanted to be at the beginning of the season."
Moments after the goal, Cavalry gave a professional debut to 16-year-old Kacper Plocinski, the youngest player to see the pitch in club history.
He helped his side to see out their 14th win of the season as they continue to set the pace in the CPL heading into the final stretch of the season.

The Cavalry midfield's shift further forward for the second half instantly shifted the game. He assisted on their first goal, played a big part in the buildup on the second and then scored the third during a fantastic performance.
