Matchweek 21 in the Canadian Premier League offers up the first clinch and elimination scenarios of the 2026 campaign.
Both Cavalry FC and Forge FC could officially secure their spots in the CPL Playoffs this weekend, while Pacific FC will aim not to be the first side mathematically eliminated.
Don't forget, this year the top four teams in the league will advance to the playoffs. First plays fourth and second plays third in two-legged semifinals, with the aggregate winners competing in the CPL Final (hosted by the higher-seeded finalist).
Here's how the league table looks heading into the weekend:

And this is what teams will be looking out for this weekend.
Cavalry FC
Sunday, Sept. 13 @ Pacific FC (6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT)
Simply put: win and they're in. Or rather, get a point and they're in.
If Cavalry get to 47 points, no team can catch them. Inter Toronto's current maximum possible total is 47, but they could only get to 13 wins and therefore couldn't pass the Cavs.
Cavalry will secure their spot in the postseason for an eighth consecutive year if any of the following scenarios occur:
- Cavalry beat Pacific
- Cavalry draw vs. Pacific
- Cavalry lose vs. Pacific AND Inter Toronto draw or lose vs. Vancouver AND FC Supra draw or lose vs. Halifax.
Since their match is the last one on Sunday, there's a chance Cavalry could have their spot clinched before they even kick off. That won't mean much to them though, with the CPL Shield race still in full swing.
Forge FC
Saturday, Sept. 12 vs. Atlético Ottawa (7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT)
Forge, currently second place, need a little outside help to clinch their postseason berth.
They'll have to win their game and get to 45 points, but they also need Inter Toronto and FC Supra to drop points.
This is the only scenario where Forge would clinch a playoff spot:
- Forge beat Atlético Ottawa AND Inter Toronto draw or lose vs. Vancouver AND FC Supra draw or lose vs. Halifax.
Pacific FC
Sunday, Sept. 13 vs. Cavalry FC (6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT)
The Tridents are on a decent run of form, with just one loss in their last six games. However, they're starting to run out of time for a last-ditch playoff push.
After picking up a point against Inter Toronto on Wednesday, Pacific cannot be eliminated on their result alone; Vancouver FC would have to pick up points as well. If they can beat Cavalry on Sunday, they'll stay alive no matter what.
If not though, this is how Pacific could be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention:
- Pacific lose to Cavalry AND Vancouver win or draw vs. Inter Toronto
- Pacific draw vs. Cavalry AND Vancouver beat Inter Toronto
