Welcome to As It Stands, a weekly column rounding up everything you missed in the Canadian Premier League.

Three weeks into the 2026 season, and we still have four undefeated teams.

This was a particularly special weekend for the Canadian Premier League, and for FC Supra du Québec in particular, because the fledgling club played its first ever home game on Sunday in front of a sold-out crowd at CEPSUM in Montreal.

Unfortunately for the fans in attendance (minus the vocal section of Atlético Ottawa supporters), it wasn't a perfect day for Supra, because Atleti's Tyr Duhaney-Walker scored a last-gasp winner to give Ottawa their first three points of the season.

Elsewhere in Matchweek 3, the Halifax Wanderers also played their home opener, and nearly went top of the table with a 2-1 win — only for Pacific's Bul Juach to charge his way through multiple defenders and score to snag a late draw. The energetic striker was lived up to his name by breaking through the backline, although he was a little more elegant and lighter on his feet.

Pacific's first goal of the day actually made some history, by the way. Alejandro Díaz's early tally was the first to benefit from the CPL and FIFA's 'Daylight' offside rule trial. Eric Lajeunesse was a step behind the Halifax defence, but with no clear separation, the goal stood — when it would be disallowed everywhere else in the world.

Inter Toronto have their first win of the new era, thanks to Gabriel Bitar's early goal, which was eventually given despite an insistent FVS challenge by Vancouver FC boss Martin Nash.

Finally, it's rare that a Forge-Cavalry matchup is the least exciting of the weekend, but that was probably the case this time. Saturday's game was just the second time (in 38) that this fixture has ended 0-0.

Nathan Ingham does deserve credit for a great goalkeeping performance, and Forge did well shutting Cavalry down, but the most memorable part of the match was probably Rezart Rama's red card.

It's actually impressive that he's joint-sixth all-time in yellow cards in CPL history, and this was his first sending off.

Here's how the standings look at the moment.

Pos. Team GP W D L Pts.
1 Cavalry FC 3 2 1 0 7
2 Forge FC 3 2 1 0 7
3 Halifax Wanderers 3 1 2 0 5

8 Vancouver FC 3 0 0 3 0

Now that the season's in full swing, storylines are starting to emerge.

We all expected FC Supra's maiden voyage to be a fun one to track, but perhaps not this fun? The Quebecois side has been playing some of the most watchable football in the league in their first two games. They took 22 shots against Ottawa, and have put 10 on target in both their games (each of which is tied for the fifth-most in a single CPL match all-time).

Actually, their 20 total shots on target is tied for a CPL record for a combined two-game stretch. There are some incredibly positive signs early on for Supra, despite the loss at home.

On the flipside of that, Ottawa are no doubt thrilled to have their first win of the year. It's been a rough start to 2026 for the champs with losses in Hamilton and Calgary, so this is a great result to bring into next week's home opener.

This Atleti team is far from a finished product, and they were under a lot of pressure in this game again. However, they were largely saved by goalkeeper Garissone Innocent. In his CPL debut, he made nine saves (joint-fourth most ever in a match), including a few spectacularly athletic stops. Without him, Ottawa could well be going back to TD Place with an 0-0-3 record.

Awards Watch

It seems we get a new insane goalkeeping performance every week. Marco Carducci, Nathan Ingham, Dimitry Bertaud, Joakim Milli, and — most recently — Garissone Innocent have all seized the spotlight in individual games so far. Ingham looked nailed on for the keeper spot in the Team of the Week until Innocent made nine saves to preserve a hard-won clean sheet for Ottawa.

Meanwhile, a few players are starting to establish themselves as early stars in 2026. One name we probably weren't talking about enough in pre-season was Loïc Kwemi; the Supra striker was exceptionally dynamic on Sunday, with four shots and five chances created, and it won't be long before he scores again. Likewise, his teammate Sean Rea looks like he's hitting his top form; he had seven shots and four chances created in Supra's home opener.

Keep an eye on Diego Konincks in Pacific's defence, by the way. He has brought a lot of quality to the Tridents' backline in the early going.

U-21 Minutes Update

With 10 per cent of their matches played, Ottawa are a quarter of the way to the 2,000-minute mark already. A lot of that is down to Sergei Kozlovskiy starting all three games, but Pumas UNAM loanee Santiago López got his debut on Sunday and played 86 minutes. He's slotted straight into the starting XI after arriving last week, and is unlikely to drop out soon.

As expected, Adam Pearlman has fit in nicely at right-back for Cavalry, starting all three games.
