With Atlético Ottawa clinching a playoff spot on Wednesday, only one postseason berth remains up for grabs entering matchweek 24.
Three more matches are coming up this weekend, with a double-header in Ontario on Saturday before Kyt Selaidopoulos makes his FC Supra coaching debut at Stade Boréale on Sunday afternoon.
Here is what's ahead in Matchweek 24:
Saturday, Oct. 3 - Inter Toronto vs. Cavalry FC
12 p.m. ET / 9 a.m. PT — York Lions Stadium — OneSoccer
Tickets available here.
Following a heartbreaking late loss in the nation's capital, Cavalry FC's Ontario odyssey continues in Toronto on Saturday.
Their last two matches against Inter Toronto? Cavalry won big, scoring five times in each. Five more this season, and they would tie the CPL's all-time record for goals in a season with 54, set by Atlético Ottawa last season.
Inter Toronto allowed another four in a 4-3 loss to Pacific last weekend. Stopping the bleeding at the back is the only way they can keep their playoff hopes alive.
Saturday, Oct. 3 - Forge FC vs. Halifax Wanderers
4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT — Wanderers Grounds — OneSoccer, CBC
Tickets available here.
It was a tough September for Forge FC, but as the calendar turns to October, opportunity awaits.
Watching rivals Cavalry FC fall in the nation's capital on Wednesday, the path is open to make up some ground again in the CPL Shield race.
Speaking of making up ground, it feels like Halifax have done that in their recent matches against Forge. After losing the opening meeting, they lost a narrow 1-0 match in their first visit to Hamilton this season. The most recent meeting on Aug. 3 in Halifax was a 0-0 draw.
Halifax have never won in Hamilton, but a huge three points on Saturday would put them just four points out of the fourth and final playoff spot.
Sunday, Oct. 4 - FC Supra du Québec vs. Pacific FC
4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT — Stade Boréale — OneSoccer, RDS Direct
Tickets available here.
The Kyt Selaidopoulos era begins for FC Supra on Sunday.
The new head coach of the Canadian Premier League's newest club inherits a difficult situation, with his team heading into the weekend eight points out of the fifth and final playoff spot.
They are also coming off their worst-ever loss, a 6-0 drubbing in Calgary. But, with two games in hand on fourth-place Vancouver FC, they do have the clearest path of any team currently below the playoff line.
Following their first road win of the season, Pacific FC now search for a first-ever win against FC Supra du Québec.
Player to Watch:
Marco Bustos, Pacific FC
A positive sign that Pacific FC are headed in the right direction is the recent play of one of their best-ever players. Midfielder Marco Bustos was back to his best last weekend, with two goals and an assist in their second win of the season, 4-3 over Inter Toronto. With seven goals and three assists this season, Bustos has tied the most goals he has scored in a CPL season. He has already scored twice against Supra this season, whom Pacific FC face again on Sunday, searching for their first-ever win against the Québec club.
