Tomasz Skublak has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time.
After playing for the Halifax Wanderers during the CPL's inaugural season in 2019, Skublak spent five seasons as one of the top players in the Ontario Premier League. He won the league's MVP multiple times.
This year, he finally got the opportunity to return to the Canadian Premier League when he signed with Inter Toronto. It's fair to say he is making the most of that opportunity.
After a two-goal performance in a 4-1 win over Atlético Ottawa at York Lions Stadium on Saturday, Skublak was named the CPL's Maple Lodge Player of the Week for Matchweek 5.
During a tireless effort, he had five shots on target and won six of eight duels, including four in the air.
Skublak is currently in a four-way tie with teammate Julian Altobelli, Forge's Brian Wright, and Halifax's Isaiah Johnston for the Golden Boot lead.
“His characteristics are very unique," said Inter Toronto head coach Mauro Eustáquio. "When we signed him, we knew exactly what it was for. He’s enjoying it; he knows what it tasted like to be a professional, and now he’s surrounded by good players, it’s a good environment, and he’s been able to show his football, and most importantly, to enjoy his football.”
Unbeaten to start the CPL season, Inter Toronto and Skublak now turn their attention to a new challenge on Sunday as they host CS Saint-Laurent (3 p.m. ET).
