After spending five of the past six weeks on the road, Vancouver FC are back in Langley for two vital matches in four days.
It begins on Wednesday, when they could deal a near-fatal blow to Inter Toronto's playoff hopes by creating an 11-point gap between the Toronto club and themselves in the fourth and final CPL playoff position with just five matchweeks remaining.
Inter Toronto, meanwhile, must make the cross-country flight from Halifax, where they were soundly defeated 4-1 by the Wanderers on Sunday.
They have won just once on the road all season, and have a league-worst -14 goal differential away from home, scoring just nine road goals in 11 away matches this season.
A win on Wednesday, however, and they are right back in the conversation, five points out with two games in hand on Vancouver and four of their final six matches at home.
Home cooking, meanwhile, has been kind to the Eagles, who have won six of their past seven matches at the Langley Events Centre and have already set a single-season home record for points at home in a season with 20.
That stretch includes a dominant 4-0 win -- courtesy of a Mohamed Amissi hat-trick -- over Inter Toronto the last time they came to town on July 4, a match which kicked off a club-record five-match winning streak during which they also defeated Forge, Cavalry and Atlético Ottawa. It's heights they haven't been able to reach since. After a 1-1 draw with rivals Pacific on Saturday in the final Salish Sea derby of 2026, they have just one win in their past seven matches.
The most recent meeting between the two clubs went the other way as Inter Toronto picked up a 3-1 win at York Lions Stadium on Sept. 13. Toronto also took home the first meeting of the season, 1-0 in Toronto back on April 19. That has been in line with the history of this fixture, with Toronto winning 11 of the 16 all-time meetings.
But Vancouver FC are looking to continue to write a new story for their club this season and lock up a first-ever playoff appearance. With just five matches remaining in their 2026 season, they not only look to lock up that playoff spot, but vitally make sure they are in good form. For Toronto, this is their last chance to deal direct damage to Vancouver in that playoff race. There's a lot on the line in Langley on Wednesday.
