In one of the biggest matches of their season so far, the Halifax Wanderers found themselves trailing Inter Toronto after just three minutes.
In a crucial clash for their playoff hopes, Halifax responded quickly. The goalscorer was predictable. Isaiah Johnston has been leading the way this entire season for the Wanderers — and tapped home his tenth of the season from close range in the ninth minute.
At the half-hour mark, with Halifax having already taken the lead, Johnston won and then converted a penalty to make it 3-1. With 11 goals on the season, he is now tied with FC Supra du Québec's Loïc Kwemi for the league lead.
Johnston has been named the Canadian Premier League's Maple Lodge Player of the Week for Matchweek 22.
He also won all three of his duels, won possession seven times and had four shot attempts.
He is the first Wanderer to be named the league's Player of the Week since Matchweek 1, when goalkeeper Marco Carducci earned the honour.
