The Gatorade Team of the Week for the first week of Canadian Premier League action in 2026.

Goalkeeper

Marco Carducci (Halifax Wanderers)

With five saves, many of which were spectacular, Carducci was brilliant in his Halifax debut, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Vancouver FC. 

Defenders

Morey Doner (Vancouver FC)

Despite his side's losing effort, Doner was the standout player for Vancouver FC on Saturday. The full-back created three chances, won 11 of 15 duels and six fouls during a dominant performance down the right flank. 

Antoine Batisse (Forge FC)

The French central defender helped Forge keep a clean sheet against defending champions Atlético Ottawa, not allowing a shot on target in a 2-0 victory. He won possession nine times, made a team-leading 42 passes, and won four of six duels, including both aerial duels he contested. 

Jefferson Alphonse (Halifax Wanderers)

The Halifax central defender did a fantastic job against Vancouver FC's main threats, Thierno Bah and Nicolás Mezquida. He won seven of his nine duels contested, four tackles, and made six clearances. 

Ben Paton (Forge FC)

The Forge full-back opened his season in style with a well-taken goal against Atlético Ottawa. Playing a unique role that allowed him to drift into midfield at times, he also won six of nine duels and two tackles.

Midfielders

Lorenzo Callegari (Halifax Wanderers)

A stunning free kick highlighted a quality performance from Callegari in the centre of the park for Halifax. The club's midfield general completed 90.6 per cent of his passes, won six of eight duels, and possession 13 times.

Harry Paton (Cavalry FC)

Paton's Cavalry debut couldn't have gone much better, as he scored the winner in a 2-1 victory over Pacific FC at Starlight Stadium. The midfielder also completed 35 of 40 passes, created two chances and won nine of 17 duels. 

Tristan Borges (Forge FC)

Borges' pinpoint corner kick was crucial to Forge's second goal. Dangerous all match, he played six crosses, created a chance and won seven of 12 duels.

Forwards

Jay Herdman (Cavalry FC)

The Cavalry winger played a part in both of his side's goals on Sunday, winning a penalty before assisting on Paton's winner. He also hit the post on a stunning long-range effort.

Brian Wright (Forge FC)

Wright scored the opening goal of the 2026 CPL season with a well-taken penalty in the first half against Atlético Ottawa. He finished with three shots attempted, seven touches in the box and two chances created, while winning three fouls.

Tobias Warschewski (Cavalry FC)

The CPL's 2024 Golden Boot winner opened his account for 2026 from the penalty spot. It was one of three shots on target on eight touches in the box, as the German also contested 16 duels.
