Marcus Caldeira has had a marvellous first season at Minnesota United.
So, with the Canadian men's national team coming to town for a friendly against the United States on Tuesday, it stands to reason that the Mississauga-born attacker joins them for the final leg of the October window.
Caldeira, 21, made his professional debut with Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League in 2022 while on a development contract. He would go on to make four appearances that year, three in the league and one in the Canadian Championship.
He also spent three seasons with Sigma FC in the Ontario Premier League, after developing in the club's academy since the age of 12.
In 2022, he joined West Virginia University, where he had an outstanding NCAA career. He scored 42 goals and added 12 assists.
Caldeira joined Minnesota United this season and has five goals and an assist in nine matches in Major League Soccer. He also has 10 goals in 16 games for Minnesota United 2 in MLS Next Pro.
Caldeira will replace Cyle Larin, who suffered back discomfort ahead of Canada's 2-0 victory over Peru on Saturday in Montréal. Hamilton, Ont.'s Theo Corbeanu, who plays for Toronto FC, has also been called into camp to replace Tajon Buchanan who was injured against Peru.
Canada take on the United States on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The match is available live on OneSoccer, TSN and RDS.
