FC Supra and Pacific FC played to a 1-1 draw in a match where each team dominated a half.

There were moments where it looked like Pacific would pick up their first victory of the season. There were others where it appeared Supra would pick up a second consecutive win.

Ultimately, neither team achieved their objective, but the draw was a deserved result between two teams that fought a balanced battle.

Despite the high stakes of the match, the wait was long before the stands at Stade TELUS had anything to get excited about. That came courtesy of Loïc Kwemi, who forced Eleias Himaras into action in the Pacific FC goal with a powerful long-range shot after a solo run in the 38th minute. David Choinière's follow up shot, too high, capped off the only real chance for Supra in the first half.

It was Pacific FC who looked the more convincing side in the first 45 minutes.

While not necessarily posing a huge threat to the Quebec goal, Pacific FC applied aggressive pressure, often quite high up the pitch. They also made extensive use of Yann Toualy's speed and attacking prowess. The very lively left winger gave Charles Auguste a torrid time in the first half.

Alejandro Diaz's opening goal, following a sequence in which Pacific FC had several shots on goal, was entirely deserved. The Tridents showed more enthusiasm and determination throughout the first half, while the Supra defence was, conversely, very disorganized on the opening goal.

Supra, uncomfortable defensively and lacking ideas offensively, deserved nothing more than to head back to the locker room trailing by a goal.

"Pacific had their fullbacks playing high up the pitch, we struggled to get out of their pressure and on our side, we lacked intensity, we lacked fight," said Sean Rea. "This less-than-stellar first half was really a mix of things, but the coach did a good job by changing the strategy."

Indeed, trailing at halftime, Supra changed their tactical formation to turn the tide, because "it was too easy for the opponent in the first half," admitted coach Nick Razzaghi.

The tactician decided to switch to a three-man defence, bringing on Sasha Deslandes in place of the very quiet Bakary Kaboré.

This adjustment allowed the Quebec full-backs to push much higher up the pitch, particularly Thomas Lebeuf, who was regularly seen in the opposing penalty area during Supra's attacks.

It also allowed Supra to be much more present in the opponent's half, and the benefits were quickly apparent.

After an initial attempt by Kwemi, which was thwarted by a well-positioned Himaras in goal, Sean Rea leveled the score without delay. With a low left-footed shot from 20 meters, Rea beat Himaras, who was reduced to a mere spectator on this occasion.

Reinvigorated, FC Supra established themselves in the opposition's half and launched numerous attacks on the British Columbian goal. Auguste and Choinière tried their luck from distance, and Keesean Ferdinand headed a corner, but to no avail.

Pacific FC, meanwhile, struggled to penetrate the opposition's half, but remained organized enough to withstand the pressure. Nick Razzaghi made a triple substitution with 20 minutes remaining, while Pacific FC coach Yiannis Tsalatsidis waited another 10 minutes before making further changes, hoping to force a breakthrough.

The impact, however, was very limited for both Supra and Pacific FC, who remained disciplined enough to prevent their opponents from creating any clear-cut chances.

In the end, the draw was a fair result.

Thanks to this point, FC Supra climbs back into 4th place in the standings. For Pacific FC, the outcome was less positive. They remain in last place in the standings, five points behind second-to-last Vancouver FC.

Pacific FC coach Yiannis Tsalatsidis, however, wanted to see the glass half full, praising his team's first-half performance and expressing satisfaction at seeing his team "improve week after week."

He wasn't the only one to have a positive evening: Alejandro Diaz, with his goal, reclaimed his position as the CPL's all-time leading scorer. He now has 47 goals in the league, surpassing the total set by Samuel Salter before his departure at the end of last season.
