On Tuesday, Atlético Ottawa announced the signing of Mexican attacker Amaury Escoto to a Standard Player Contract guaranteed through the 2026 Canadian Premier League (CPL) season with an option for 2027.
Escoto, 33, brings a wealth of Mexico first-tier experience to Atlético Ottawa, having made 145 appearances in Liga BBVA MX, scoring 16 goals and providing eight assists for clubs such as Querétaro FC, Puebla FC and FC Juárez, as well as 34 goals in 82 appearances in Mexico Second Tier.
“I am very excited for this new chapter in my career,” said Amaury Escoto, Striker, Atlético Ottawa. “I have heard great things about the growing soccer culture in Canada, and the success of Atlético Ottawa. The aim is to contribute as much as possible in this final stretch of the season and help Atleti defend the North Star Cup.”
Born in Zapopan, Mexico, Escoto began his professional career with Querétaro FC, progressing through the club’s youth system before making his first-team debut during the 2014/15 season. He then joined Tigres UANL on loan, where he scored in the Copa Libertadores. Escoto has represented eight different clubs in Mexico, and has also earned international experience through loan spells with El Paso Locomotive FC (USA Second Tier) and CD Suchitepéquez (Guatemala First Tier).
“Amaury brings a level of experience that is hard to find, particularly with the amount of time he has spent playing at the highest level,” said Manuel Vega, CEO, Atlético Ottawa. “He has proven himself in a highly competitive environment, and we believe his knowledge of the game, character, and skill will be valuable assets to this group. Just as importantly, we believe he can share that experience with our young players, which is an important part of the legacy we want to build at Atlético Ottawa.”
Most recently, the centre-forward played for Tepatitlán in Mexico Second Tier, scoring nine goals in 19 appearances. The centre-forward is available for selection this weekend as Atlético Ottawa hosts Montréal-newcomers FC Supra du Québec for the final time in the 2026 CPL Regular Season.
