Mohamed Amissi was the hero for Vancouver FC, scoring a hat trick in a commanding 4-0 win vs. Inter Toronto.

Make it three wins in their last four for Vancouver FC, who picked up an assertive 4-0 victory over Inter Toronto at the Stadium at Langley Events Centre on Sunday.

After falling to Forge on Canada Day in a game they led 2-0 before losing 3-2, this is the exact response Vancouver will have wanted to see out of their group, as they rallied nicely to pick up a massive win at home.

Now, thanks to this result, they've leapfrogged their way into a playoff spot, sitting fourth in the Canadian Premier League table as of writing - although it's worth noting that a few of the teams below them have some games in hand on them, including Toronto.

Speaking of Toronto, however, they'll look to quickly wipe the taste of disappointment out of their mouths after this defeat, as they've now lost four straight games, dropping them to sixth place after starting the year undefeated in their first six league matches.

Having made four changes to the team that lost to Forge, it didn't take long for Vancouver to hit the ground running in this game, as they gave plenty for their home fans to cheer about early.

Less than a minute into the game, they had the ball in the back of the net, as Thierno Bah made a nice run down the right wing after some quick Vancouver interplay, and he managed to pick out the run of Nicolás Mezquida for an easy finish.

Then, Vancouver managed to double the score less than five minutes later, with Mezquida playing provider this time. On that play, he found Mohamed Amissi in space out wide, and the Vancouver winger did well to cut in and fire a shot, one that would deflect off Toronto's Frank Sturing and into the net.

Eager to get themselves back into the game, Toronto tried to fashion up a response, and to their credit, they nearly found an opening goal of their own in the 12th minute.

After some great play from Béni Badibanga down the left flank, he found Ollie Bassett with a nice cutback into the box, but despite being completely unmarked, Bassett fired his first-time shot well wide of the goal.

Moments later, Toronto had another big chance, this time off a long throw-in, one that Tomasz Skublak did well to flick on to Sturing, but he sent his shot right at Vancouver goalkeeper Henrik Regitnig.

Continuing to ramp up the pressure, Toronto had another good look off a set-piece, this time from a wide free-kick, but Sturing was unable to redirect his close-range attempt on goal after a good delivery into the box.

Having absorbed that pressure, however, Vancouver had a wonderful chance to score in the 36th minute, and it was almost a spectacular marker, as Amissi attempted a bicycle kick that was only kept out by a goalline clearance from Carlos Guzmán.

Moments later, though, Amissi would find his brace, and it'd be Bah who would play provider again. After a nice run down the flank, he delivered a dangerous low ball into the box, finding the run of Amissi, who slotted home from close range to make it 3-0.

He wouldn't be done there, either, as he completed his hat trick before half-time.

This time, Emrick Fotsing would start the play, as he stole the ball from Toronto's Oswaldo Léon in a dangerous position before firing a shot, one that Toronto's Diego Urtiaga could only parry into the path of Amissi, who slotted home with conviction to make it 4-0.

Wanting to at least salvage something out of the first half, Toronto did come close to finding a goal right before the break, as Kembo Kibato fired a shot from distance, but despite beating Regitnig with his strike, he was denied by the post.

On the other side of half-time, Vancouver didn't show any signs of slowing down despite their commanding lead. They almost made it 5-0 in the 49th minute, as Lys Mousset found the run of Mezquida in the box, but his first-timed shot was denied by an excellent save from Urtiaga.

Toronto, meanwhile, continued to search for a first goal, and nearly found it in the 68th minute, as Skublak flicked on a dangerous free-kick from Bassett, sending his shot just over the goal.

At the other end, Fotsing had another good look at goal after some nice footwork from Henri Godbout, but after being teed up to shoot by the Vancouver substitute, Fotsing's shot was saved by Urtiaga.

After a quiet period, Thierno Bah had a dangerous chance in the 79th minute, as he cut onto his left foot and fired a low shot, one that sliced just wide of the near post.

From there, though, the game would end without much further fanfare, as Vancouver cruised to a comfortable victory in the end.

Mohamed Amissi, Vancouver FC

It was a dream day for Amissi, who scored a hat trick as part of a dominant showing at left wing for Vancouver.

He was ruthless and clinical when called upon, too, scoring his three goals on four shots - and he also had 7 touches in Toronto's box and completed one dribble in a lively offensive performance.

What's Next?
