Canadian Premier League side FC Supra du Québec will host League1 Ontario’s Woodbridge Strikers SC this Friday, May 8 at 6:00 PM at Stade Boréale in Laval in a first-round knockout match of the 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship.

As FC Supra begins its first-ever Voyageurs Cup campaign, here are five storylines to watch.

1. One Tournament. One Path to CONCACAF.

The TELUS Canadian Championship is Canada’s premier domestic competition, bringing together clubs from every level of the national soccer pyramid — from semi-professional challengers to MLS heavyweights.

The stakes are enormous: the tournament winner earns Canada’s lone berth in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

2. Cup Matches Never Follow the Script

On paper, FC Supra enters as the professional favourite. But knockout football rarely follows a script. Woodbridge arrives as one of League1 Ontario’s strongest sides, bringing intensity, structure, and attacking quality. With no history between the clubs, Friday’s matchup is set for an unpredictable and compelling contest.

FC Supra’s squad will not take Woodbridge lightly. Several players and staff were part of the CS Saint-Laurent squad that stunned Halifax Wanderers in the 2024 tournament — proof that discipline, composure, and execution can outweigh pedigree in matches like these.

3. Squad Depth Will Be Called Upon

Friday’s match comes during a demanding stretch of three games in 10 days, and head coach Nick Razzaghi has leaned heavily on squad rotation all season.

FC Supra has yet to repeat a starting XI in league play, a sign of both tactical flexibility and roster depth. Expect fresh legs, lineup changes, and opportunities for new faces to make an impact in a high-pressure environment.

4. The New Club Has Proven Tournament Experience

Despite its expansion status, FC Supra enters the competition with a squad that knows the tournament well.

Fourteen players on the roster have previously appeared in the Canadian Championship. Most notably, Clément Bayiha won the Voyageurs Cup twice with CF Montréal, lifting the trophy in 2019 and 2021.

In knockout football, experience matters.

5. Joakim Milli Could Decide the Match

There is no margin for error in the preliminary round. If the score is level after 90 minutes, the match goes directly to penalties.

That reality puts even greater importance on goalkeeping, and FC Supra will trust Joakim Milli to deliver in the biggest moments. His presence, reflexes, and command of the box could prove decisive if the match comes down to a single save.
