The Canadian Premier League has finally arrived in La Belle Province. The league's newest club, FC Supra du Québec, will kick off their inaugural season on April 11, and play their first home match at Montreal's Stade CEPSUM on Sunday, April 19.
With a roster assembled from scratch, featuring some of the best local talent Quebec has to offer, FC Supra are looking to make a splash in year one.
Story of 2025
For Supra, it's a simple tale: 2025 is where the story began.
The club was officially launched in September at an event in Laval, where the new ownership group and club president Rocco Placentino were on hand — joined by CPL officials, former Montreal Supra players, and VIPs from the city and province — to unveil the team's new crest and colours.
FC Supra du Québec, inspired by the former Canadian Soccer League team Montreal Supra of the late '80s and early '90s, arrived with a mandate to be "un club d'ici, pour ici" — in other words, deeply rooted in and fuelled by the Quebecois soccer community.
Most notably: the club has assembled a roster of exclusively players with ties to Quebec. All of the staff, including head coach and ex-CS Saint-Laurent boss Nicholas Razzaghi, have ties to the local soccer scene as well.
3 Players to Watch
FW - David Choinière
Likely to be the face of the club on the pitch, Choinière was the first player Supra signed. The 29-year-old native of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu is already an established star in the CPL, having spent the last seven years with perennial title contenders Forge FC. With the Hamilton club, Choinière played in six CPL Finals and won four championships as well as two CPL Shields. Along the way, he developed a reputation for showing up in the biggest moments.
Choinière has scored four goals in the CPL Playoffs, including in the 2019 and 2022 CPL Finals. He has a futher four goals in Concacaf League play, four in the Canadian Championship, and he scored Forge's first ever goal in the Concacaf Champions League in 2022. Now, the clever winger will bring his talents and experience to Supra.
FW - Sean Rea
Another of Supra's marquee first signings, Rea returns to the Montreal area after two solid years with the Halifax Wanderers. The 23-year-old, who can line up either as a winger or an attacking midfielder, has plenty of professional experience under his belt. He's now looking to make an impact in his hometown, after he was released in 2023 by CF Montreal following almost 10 years between the club's academy and first team.
Rea is well familiar with the league by now, and is the only Supra player with a CPL award to his name: he won the 2022 Best Canadian U-21 Player award after a standout season with Valour FC. That year, Rea set a league record for assists in a season with nine. He'd like to take the next step in 2026 and be a true star in Quebec.
MF - Alessandro Biello
A breakout candidate with plenty of talent, Biello hopes 2026 is the year he becomes a regular starter in the CPL. He spent 2025 on loan from CF Montreal with the Halifax Wanderers and played just 349 minutes, but now he's at Supra on a permanent deal. The 19-year-old midfielder is expected to be a big part of coach Nicholas Razzaghi's plans, so this could be an opportunity for Biello to translate his skills to the pro level after impressing with the Canada U-20s in 2024.
Biello's story will be a particularly interesting one to watch as he develops at Supra, considering his familial connection to the club: His father, Mauro, was a key player for the original Montreal Supra in the early 1990s.
2026 Outlook
Supra are perhaps the most fascinating team at the beginning of the 2026 season, simply because it's impossible to tell what exactly they'll look like. There are always growing pains when a new team begins play, but this team does have a strong foundation of established CPL talent: Choinière, Rea, Aboubacar Sissoko and Diyaeddine Abzi, among several others.
An additional leg up that Supra may have early on is the familiarity much of their core will share. Nine members of the primary roster have experience with Ligue1 Québec side CS St-Laurent, under coach Razzaghi. That might speed the chemistry-building process in pre-season, and allow them to hit the ground running.
In their inaugural season, FC Supra will play home matches in several venues, including CEPSUM, Stade Claude-Robillard, and Stade Boreale in Laval (the latter of which will ultimately be their primary home venue). They've also got a match scheduled in June at Quebec City's Stade TELUS, as they look to bring their club to a variety of locations across the province.
Supra made several of their first ever signings toward the end of 2025, but we won't know much about how they stack up to other CPL sides until they take to the pitch on April 11.
U-21 Spotlight
At time of writing, Supra have five domestic U-21 players in the squad, including the aforementioned Biello, who should account for a significant bulk of the required 2,000 U-21 minutes this year. Another one to watch, though, will be defender Ismael Yeo. The 21-year-old might be one of Supra's starting centre-backs in 2026, in his first professional season. He has good experience at the semi-pro level in Quebec and in the CF Montreal academy, as well as with Seattle University in NCAA Div. I, but the club will need him to take a step this year.
Supra also have a contingent of players on development contracts who will help add to their U-21 minute totals. Defenders Eliakim Awonongbadje and Isaiah Byer, forward Alexander Makarova George, and goalkeeper Jolan Faury should all have parts to play in the inaugural season.
Projected XI
(4-3-3): Milli; Bayiha, Yeo, Ferdinand, Abzi; Boughanmi, Biello, Sissoko; Choinière, Kwemi, Rea
