Title: Retail Assistant

Position: Part-Time

Expected Placement (subject to change): Year-Round Retail Support

Location: Spruce Meadows (18011 Spruce Meadows Way SW, Calgary, AB T2X 4B7)

Wage: $20 per hour

About the Role

Spruce Meadows and Cavalry FC are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team in the Retail Support role. In this dynamic position, team members work both behind the scenes and front-of-house, playing an important part in delivering exceptional retail experiences during the Spruce Meadows show jumping tournament season, Cavalry FC matches, and a variety of other events throughout the year.

Located in the southwest corner of Calgary, Alberta, Spruce Meadows is a world-renowned show jumping venue that hosts internationally recognized tournaments and community events annually. Alongside Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League, the venue comes alive with sport, entertainment, and thousands of fans throughout the year.

Responsibilities (included, but are not limited to):

• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout various situations.
• Assistance in other departments may be required during term of employment.
• Tasks include: Serving and advising customers in store and online, answering customer queries, replenishing stock, unloading deliveries.
• Ensuring the Spruce Meadows standard is maintained in respect to all aspects of the company operations. This includes but is not limited to customer service, supplies, equipment, building conditions, overall cleanliness.                                                                              
• Responsible for ensuring all areas of concern are recorded and reported to the respective supervisors or appointed positions at the time of incident is crucial.
• Ensure Spruce Meadows accounting procedures are followed when executing all accounting processes.
• Responsible for executing professional and effective communication.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Basic spoken English proficiency required
• Reliable transportation to and from work (no public transit access available)

Availability & Work Environment

• Full availability and commitment to work all tournaments, soccer matches, and events throughout the year
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, early mornings, and late nights
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry) and in potentially dusty or noisy environments
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

Experience & Skills

• Previous retail experience is considered an asset
• Knowledge of equestrian equipment is an asset
• Experience with Shopify is an asset
• Fluency in a second language is considered an asset
• Excellent customer service skills
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Effective negotiation skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Team-oriented with a willingness to support colleagues
• Ability to follow direction while demonstrating initiative

Physical Requirements

• Physically capable of lifting and moving merchandise or deliveries as required
