For a player who has already authored some of the club’s most memorable moments, this accomplishment is another fitting marker in a story defined by creativity, confidence, and big-game influence.
Bustos first joined Pacific ahead of the 2020 Canadian Premier League season and made an immediate impact at The Island Games (the CPL covid-19 "bubble"). In his debut against HFX Wanderers, he scored the go-ahead goal in a 2-2 draw, offering an early glimpse of the quality he would bring to Vancouver Island.
That tournament became the first chapter of his Pacific legacy. Bustos finished the 2020 campaign with five goals and three assists in ten appearances, including a standout two-goal, two-assist performance in Pacific’s 5-0 win over HFX Wanderers.
He continued to be one of the club’s key players in 2021, helping Pacific build toward what would become a historic championship season. His ability to create, combine, and produce moments of individual brilliance made him one of the most dangerous players in the CPL. If not for injury, Bustos was on pace to walk away with the 2021 CPL Player of the Season.
In 2022, Bustos added another signature moment to his Pacific résumé, recording three assists in a 3-2 win over Valour FC. It was a complete creator’s performance and one of the clearest examples of the vision and technical quality that have defined his time with the club.
Bustos also played a role in Pacific’s first continental campaign, scoring in the club’s 6-0 Concacaf League win over Waterhouse FC. It was another memorable contribution on a night that remains one of the biggest in club history.
Following the 2022 season, Marco made the move to the Swedish first division, Allsvenskan, where he would sign with IFK Värnamo. A deserving move for a stellar talent that the Trident faithful knew was bound to happen, but that wouldn't make them any less sad to see him go. Marco had brought so much to Vancouver Island and would be immortalized forever, as a champion. When Bustos left the CPL at the end of 2022, the Winnipeg native was fifth all-time in goals, and second on the league’s all-time assists leaderboard.
After two years in Europe, Bustos announced his return to Pacific in 2025, bringing experience, creativity, and a familiar attacking presence back to the Island. Now in his second spell with the Tridents, he's continued to be a player capable of changing matches with one pass, one touch, or one finish.
Reaching 100 appearances is a reflection of more than longevity. For Bustos, it represents impact. From Island Games brilliance to championship performances, individual moments of brilliance, he has been part of some of the club’s defining moments.
On Saturday, Marco Bustos became a Pacific centurion. Congratulations, Marco, on 100 appearances for Pacific FC. The club will highlight Marco's accomplishment pre-match on July 5th at Starlight Stadium before they take on the Halifax Wanderers.
