The Atleti Equal Access Camps, presented by CAA, took place at the Alexander Community Centre this summer, bringing together young players from an underserved community for one of the most distinctive soccer experiences in the country.
Led by Atlético Ottawa staff and visiting coaches from Atlético de Madrid, this camp allowed kids from the Carlington neighbourhood to play soccer for free with top coaches. Over 50 participants attended throughout the week to drop in and participate in the world's game.
This year’s sessions were focused on keeping it all within the Atleti family. The sessions were led by Atlético Ottawa Juniors (AOJ) coaches with Atlético de Madrid Academy coaches providing instruction to the kids and coaches helping grow the game.
Atlético Ottawa's Head of Community Development, Thomas Stockting, said, “We love seeing that red and white Atleti logo, but the smiles are the most important part".
This week's Atleti Equal Access Camp was presented by CAA, sharing the message of breaking down the barrier to sport and allowing Canada to grow our soccer community. Together with CAA, Atlético de Madrid, Atlético Ottawa and AOJ are helping to create opportunities for kids that need them, and we are extremely proud to present these kids with an opportunity to grow not only as athletes but also as individuals.
When these opportunities continue to present themself, Atlético Ottawa will remain committed to our local community. We will use soccer to bring the Canadian youth together with the goal of strengthening communities and ensuring every child has the opportunity to step onto the pitch and join us playing our favourite game.
